On Friday March 23 a group of friends went for a run. This was not any ordinary run, it was the London Landmarks half marathon.  Members of Rye Runners joined in the throng of fun runners and serious athletes. In the group were two ladies Maz Smith and Helen Pierce who are connected to Rye Rugby Club. Their husbands are Dave Smith, a regular player and Tony Pierce, who has retired from playing and is now the Club President.

On March 9 Rye Rugby Club held its monthly quiz which usually raises money for research into prostate cancer, this time it was held to raise money to allow Helen to qualify for the run. The quiz was so well attended with rugby club members, members of Rye Runners and friends from Rye, Hastings and surrounding areas, that we could not fit another person in.  Tracey Winklmair set the questions, I set the music and picture rounds, the pictures were of the London Landmarks that the runners would be passing.

Helen organised a raffle to be held during the evening and with the £1 per person entrance money she raised the £350 she needed to qualify for the run. In total Helen raised £403.50. Maz Smith raised her money at other events away from the rugby club. All monies are going to www.tommys.org, a charity that funds research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage, and providing information for parents-to-be.

Rye Rugby Club will be holding the next quiz evening on the April 6 starting at 7:30pm, Peter Hook will be our guest question setter and quiz master. He raises money for the prostate cancer charity. If you wish to put a team together (a maximum of six people) or just come along and join in then please message Rye Rugby Club via Facebook or call Graham Nunn on 07515578447 to book your places. It’s £1 per person and there is a curry at half time for £5.
