Rye Town FC faced Battle Baptists at the Rugby Club ground on Saturday, September 28, with a squad of 15 players, only 14 could be named leaving the returning Sean Parker Harding having to await his Rye Town return.

The match sponsored by Brian Clifton of Rye Gardening Services started well for Rye with the team having good amounts of possession carving out decent chances, although Richard Hibbs and Liam Sayer were unable to convert for the home side.

Playing narrow rushing passes and going direct within the half, allowed Baptists to take not one, but a two goal cushion to end the first half, not helped by a poor defensive display from the home side.

A few changes at half time by coach Bernie Walker involving Yew Tree Stone Man of the Match, Martin Brain and eventual Town goalscorer Sam “tekkers” Henham gave Rye a dominant second half but yet again a mistake allowed Baptists to score.

The game was more ruthless in the final third, shape on and off the ball will be a focus in coming weeks for the coaching staff. It is time to turn these displays into match winning displays!
