Thinking about standing?

Rye’s former mayor and long-term town councillor Jonathan Breeds has stepped down from the council, and no reason has been made public. The vacancy has been advertised and an election to fill the vacancy will be called if ten local electors write to the returning officer in Bexhill to request one.

If an election is not requested, the council shall co-opt someone to fill the vacancy. Details of this process will be advertised if needed.

Well known as a local landlord at various venues, Jonathan regularly sings for his supper along with current mayor Andi Rivett and current mayoress and former mayor Rebekah Gilbert.

Separately, the elections for Rother District Council next year are approaching fast and for those thinking about standing for election, a public meeting is being held at Bexhill Town Hall on Monday, November 14 between 6:30pm and 8:30pm to tell you about it and answer any questions you have.
