Fly tipping

When is Rother District Council (RDC) going to crack down on illegal fly tipping at the recycling point at Rye swimming pool? These photos were taken on three consecutive evenings in the past week.

More fly tipping

There is a notice saying “No fly tipping, maximum fine £50,000”, which is nonsense, as these people know there is no monitoring of the site.

I was under the impression, obviously wrongly, that recycling was moved to this site because there was CCTV  in the swimming pool car park.

I was told by a contractor previously clearing the site that it was cheaper for Rother to pay for his work than to enforce the regulations. Surely there is no moral justification for this attitude. If fly tipping has no comeback it encourages other people to believe it is acceptable.

Presumably, as a ratepayer, along with all other RDC ratepayers, I am paying for contractors to clear this site, and feel my money would be better spent in deterring the offence before it happens.

And more still

  1. I’ve used Rothers bulky waste collection a few times and wonder if it would not be better to offer a free or certainly £10 starter collection for a couple of things. I’m sure it wouldn’t stop fly tipping but it’s a start. Oh, and yes, prosecute the ‘professional’ tipper every time and crush their vehicles.

    The charges at the moment:-
    Collection of 1-3 items – £40.00
    Collection of 4-6 items – £73.00
    Collection of 7-9 items – £108.00
    Collection of 10-12 items – £146.00

  2. It would be interesting if locals were to have a whipround to buy a cheap, internet-enabled camera, mount it, and record the vehicles turning up to dump waste there… It would provide some great content for Rye News…
    And the local Constabulary..
