This week Rye News is reporting on the Safer Rye meeting. It was called by local businesses concerned about recent incidents of anti-social behaviour in the town.

High Street shops were represented, along with town councillors, Rye Chamber of Commerce, Sussex Police, and Rye Youth Zone which hosted the discussion on Wednesday 8 July.

The meeting heard reports of criminal damage to homes, businesses and vehicles – including the use of catapults. There were also examples of shoplifting and intimidation, plus worries about reporting incidents and challenging offenders.

Real examples of criminal behaviour affecting people who live and work in our town.

That said, the stats are pretty clear. Sussex Police say Rye has one of the lowest crime rates in the whole county. A tenth of the anti-social behaviour that takes place in Bexhill.

What’s your experience of crime in Rye? Have you reported it to Sussex Police and what was the follow up? Get in touch in confidence by emailing info@ryenews.org.uk

We’ll have more from Sussex Police next week.
