Rye News only exists due to the support of a team of voluntary contributors. They come in a wide variety of roles: writing stories, covering local events, helping us to verify and edit submitted articles, selling advertising, moderating comments, social media promotion – and many, many more.
There’s an urgent need for more people to get involved, especially in writing about local events or following up stories, so we’ve organised a get together in June. Come along and find us at The Kino on Wednesday June 11 6-8pm for a glass of wine and a chat.
If you are interested in what goes on in your community or are involved in one of the huge variety of clubs, societies and charitable groups then Rye News is the avenue to share those interests with the wider population. We have 6000 readers a week, with more than a million page views a year. Our readers want to know more about what’s going on in our town and the important issues that face us.
Like many of the organisation in Rye run by volunteers we could do with some more people to get involved! We need to add to our team to ensure we can achieve all the ambitions we have for the paper. No previous newspaper skill is required, more an interest in the community that we live in and the willingness to devote a little of your time to help us ensure we inform our readership on important and / or interesting topics in Rye and the surrounding villages.
Individual story writers, members of societies or clubs, community and charitable organisations, sports clubs and hobbyists are all welcome. Indeed anyone with an interest in the amazing environment that we live in. We are especially interested in volunteers willing to establish a network of potential contributors where they live, or in a specific area of interest, who will help ensure a regular flow of articles into the paper.
For any new contributor we will first establish the specific area of interest and what time may be available to help us out. You will receive guidance and training in your area of interest and access to support as you become part of the team.
It’s a lot of fun … so come and find out more (and have a drink!) at Rye Kino on Wednesday June 11 6-8pm or contact James the editor at info@ryenews.org.uk and we will happily talk you through the opportunities that we have.
