Rye Jazz Cafe opened on Friday 1 May. The new venue on South Undercliff will run as a cafe during the day and a bar and music venue in the evening.
The building, which housed Kiko’s Cat Cafe until recently, has been refurbished as a venue for up to 45 people.
“Our opening night went really well and we were packed,” said Lianne Dobson from Rye Jazz Cafe. “We’re proud to introduce this as a family-run business. Whether it’s a quiet morning with a proper flat white or a Friday night with a live jazz trio and a bottle of Sussex wine, we want this to be the place where the community feels at home.”

The opening evening showcased live music, something the new owners – the Hanson family – are keen to promote.
“We want to give our incredible local musicians a dedicated place to play and collaborate,” said Lianne. “We’ve put a lot of love into the refurbishment to make it feel like a classic, cosy jazz lounge for visitors and locals.”
