On Saturday, July 22 RNLI Rye Harbour welcomed hundreds of guests to the lifeboat station’s open day. There were many great highlights including the arrival of boats from flank stations RNLI Hastings and Dungeness coming up the Rother and tying up to the quay so people could come on board for a tour.

The station was buzzing with volunteers manning stalls, selling raffle tickets, serving teas and cakes. A big thank you to the amazing bakers who created the scrumptious cakes and sausage rolls and other delicacies.

Open day brings together our local emergency support services and we were thrilled to welcome Rother Responders and Rye Fire Station and its appliance. Children loved climbing on board the fire engine and trying on the heavy helmets. Pett Level Independent Rescue crew came to support too.

There was a continual queue for children to come on board the Atlantic 85, RNLI Rye Harbour’s boat, and many memories were made and perhaps future crew were created.

A huge thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who gave generously for our raffle and tombola prizes.

It was a great success and once again Rye Harbour RNLI “one crew” pulled together and created a super fundraising event which will helps the crew to Save Lives at Sea.
