Every good summer fete has a dog show, and the Green Waves Community Festival is no exception.
On Saturday 15 August at 2.30pm, Bernardine Fiddimore will judge our dog show. She is a bit of a celebrity locally having being the Mayor of Rye in 2014 and 2015 and she still serves as a councillor with Rye Town Council.
Bernadine originally trained in veterinary nursing and has 40 years of experience working with dogs and cats. Her Iden Wood Cattery, formerly Iden Boarding Kennels and Cattery, continues to thrive, three generations having been involved in the family management.
At the Green Waves Festival dog show there are eight categories namely:
1. Prettiest girl
2. Most handsome male
3. Cutest puppy up to 8 months
4. Golden oldie 7+
5. Best rescue
6. Best biscuit catcher
7. Waggiest tail
and finally, 8. Judges Choice
The cost is £2 per category or three categories for £5. All breeds are welcome as long as they are happy and comfortable in the company of other dogs. If you are taking part in the dog show, please do not bring your dog to register until after 2pm.
In addition to the dog show, the arena will be hosting a martial arts demonstration from SKMA, line dancing from Step Up, baton twirling from The Tornado Twirl Stars, tug of war and other family games as well as a special event for those in wheelchairs and scooters.
From 5pm until 10.30pm there will be live music performances from Chris & Graham, the Poppy Prescott Band, The Mighty Zircons and Hastings’ own Sound Syndicate playing cover tunes from the 60s to 80s for all those who love to dance.
On Sunday 16 August, from midday until 4pm, we have a nationally renowned petting zoo, free pony rides, music from the Ukulele Experiment and a special theatrical presentation from Bee Tidings.
At 6pm we host the second annual Youth Showcase featuring talented young people from Rye, Hastings, Bexhill and surrounding parishes.
