For one night only!

Just imagine, you’re on a little trip away for a few days, to a beautiful ancient town. It’s a hot sultry evening and you hear what you believe to be thunder… but it can’t be… it’s too rhythmic, too constant, and too loud! Intrigued, you follow the noise, only to find yourself in the neighbourhood community centre, where the local bonfire drummers are holding their regular Monday night practice…

Well, that is exactly what happened when Hattie and Kim visited Rye last week.

Having stood in the doorway and watched the mighty Ryebellion Drummers rehearse a couple of numbers, the ladies, visiting from Christchurch in Dorset, found themselves recruited, for one night only. And, by the end of the break, they had been fully kitted out with harnesses, drums (obviously), and sticks, and assigned to the bass section for the second half of practice.

Never let it be said that drumming was just a spectator sport!

Hattie and Kim really enjoyed the experience, and they were both pretty good for a first attempt. They couldn’t believe that they had been invited to join in.

Pictured with Hattie and Kim, are Robert Draper aka the Boss, and Florence, who, at just 9 years old, is Ryebellion’s youngest member!

Hattie said afterwards, “Florence is a really great drummer and absolutely the best teacher! We’ve had a fantastic time, thank you.”

A member of Ryebellion said, “We hope that the ladies enjoyed their visit to Rye and that their impromptu drumming session will be remembered by them for many years. It was an absolute pleasure to have them join in with us.”
