Stuck for ideas for the August holiday weekend? Here’s a selection of events from the Rye News What’s On Diary.
Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat (PLIRB) is hosting its annual Open Day on Sunday 30 August, from 11am to 3pm at their boathouse in Pett Levell, writes Jo O’Hara. As an independent lifeboat station, not affiliated to the RNLI, we receive no centralised funding and this is our biggest fundraising event with all money raised going towards operational or project costs. We also think we put on a super fun day!
There will be a dog show with eight classes to enter costing only £3 per dog per class and lots of fun games for all the family. Stalls will be selling clothing, pottery, jewellery, toys, artwork, ice cream and handmade items. The ever-popular bottle tombola is back again and there is a Grand Raffle with cash prizes to win.
Food on offer includes a BBQ serving burgers and hotdogs with meat supplied by Pett Butchers and veggie options too. A refreshment stall will be serving hot drinks and loads of cakes and delicious things that supporters bake for us and a stall serving vegan and gluten-free items.
The bar will be serving a range of beer, lager, cider, wine and soft drinks plus our Pett Punch. Beers are only £5 a pint!
Subject to conditions, there will also be a sea display.
Entry is free. There is limited parking available but good bus routes from Rye and Hastings
Rye Jazz
The Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival takes place this weekend, with four days of concerts in St Mary’s Church starting this Friday 28 August.
There are seven headline acts, beginning with the Van Morrison Alumni Band on Friday and finishing with Mica Paris on Bank Holiday Monday.
It’s the 14th Festival and while there’s no free music stage outside the town hall this year, you’ll still be able to enjoy jazz at pubs and wine bars all over Rye as well as in St Mary’s.
