Rye’s season made a stuttering start in the big bash that is the Sussex T20 Cup last Saturday 2 May. Rye were hosting Crowhurst Park. Rye won the toss and invited the Park to bat.

Rye started well restricting the run rate and regularly taking wickets. Only N Rabari with 53 mastered the conditions. Jack Dudley (3-16) and Freddie Mackenzie (2-19) took wickets whilst Harry Smeed and Craig Pierce restricted the run rate.

The Park finished on 120-8 in 20 overs. Rye’s reply never got going as they slumped to 13-5 off 7 overs. T Groom (3-6) and Ollie Constable (2-10). So the game petered out as Rye finished on 42 all out. Only James Hamilton (18) got into double figures.

In the follow on game the Park succumbed to Eastbourne by 90 runs, so Eastbourne progressed to the next round.

This Saturday 9 May, the league season gets underway. Rye 1sts host Glynde 1sts at the Rye Cricket Salts with a 12:30pm start in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. The 2nds travel to Eastbourne 3rds and Rye 3rds travel to play Westfield 2nds, both games are 1pm starts.
