Aye, aye for HMS Pinafore

Ryesingers put on a fabulous production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore last Saturday, March 24 at the Community Centre, ably accompanied by Richard Eldridge on piano.
For one night only, a cast of more than 20 people sang enthusiastically to a rapt audience. Andi Rivett as the Rt Hon Sir Joseph Porter KCB (the ruler of the Queen’s Navy) stole the show with his exuberant and confident performance, undeterred by the occasional line fluff. He was excellent, as were his sisters and his cousins and his aunts.
Lesley Moore as Josephine, the Captain’s daughter had a beautiful singing voice which did justice to her taxing and difficult part. Our deputy town crier Paul Goring was unrecognisable as the hideous and evil Dick Deadeye.
For their next concert, Ryesingers will be presenting an evening of American music on June 30 at Rye Methodist church. They are also recruiting and would welcome all voices. They meet every Wednesday at 7:30pm and interested parties can contact the musical director Lesley Brownbill on 01797 222637.
