As tickets go on sale for the Rye Arts Festival, NFU Mutual Ashford, Tenterden and Whitfield have launched an exciting prize draw on their Facebook page. The prize is tickets for four to see former MP and personality Gyles Brandreth at the festival, followed by a meal at The Fig.

Gyles Brandreth kicks off the celebrations of the 50th Rye Arts Festival on Friday, September 10 at 3pm, with recollections of the town before looking back at his varied life, as revealed in his recent autobiography Odd Boy Out.

Doug Jackson, senior partner and NFU group secretary, comments:

“This is an exciting competition, which we hope will not only have a lot of entries but will also help build awareness of the entire festival as it approaches. The prospect of seeing the great Gyles Brandreth open the festival, followed by a delicious meal at The Fig should get locals and those further afield excited for the festival”.

A TV reporter, ready radio wit and stand-up comic, Brandreth is sure to attract audiences to the festival this year in his 80-minute show, where he provides an extraordinarily revealing account of growing up and coming of age in an apparently well-to-do but always strapped-for-cash middle-class English family.

The Rye Arts Festival describes the show as a story about the ordinary things – family life, happiness, ambition and love, but also about adventures – meeting princes and presidents, visiting death row in America, and events in the extraordinary years after the second world war.

The winner will enjoy the show followed by an evening meal at The Fig, recently named as one of the UK’s top 10 places to get brunch in the 2021 Travellers’ Choice “Best of the Best” restaurants awards. Only a three-minute walk from St Mary’s Church where Brandreth is performing, The Fig is the perfect location for an after show meal and features a full evening menu.

To enter the competition, entrants must visit the NFU Mutual Ashford, Tenterden & Whitfield Facebook page and complete some simple steps, including tagging the friends they would like to take to the event. The winner of the competition will be announced on September 3. Terms and conditions apply.

NFU Mutual Ashford, Tenterden & Whitfield is the headline sponsor of the Rye Arts Festival 2021. The festival is scheduled to take place 10th – 26th September 2021, across various locations in Rye.
