Beware A259 diversions

A lengthy public notice from Highways England has given warnings of night time closures of the A259 between Pevensey and Brenzett, and therefore diversions, between 8pm and 6am the following morning at some point and for some length of time at a variety of places during most of the new year, 2020, up to Christmas Eve in a year’s time.

These closures may affect both carriageways, roundabouts and side roads as well as bus stops – and are all part of the programmed cyclical maintenance to be carried out by contractors for Highways England.

Some work is already taking place to ensure newts, water voles, and badgers (in particular) get special protection, and the contractors will be warned to take care when they make changes and carry out operations where this wild life can be found or where there are signs they use the area.

Notices to motorists warning of potential roadworks, temporary speed limits, and diversions will be posted, but night time drivers should be wary all year.

For more information ring the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 or email info@highwaysengland.co.uk.

But be warned. At some point during 2020 you may be diverted off the A259 into the darkness of the marsh to get round the road works.
