HarryBus lives on

Some three months ago Pat Hughes, who runs Rye and District Community Bus Service, spoke to me about the fact that HarryBus (he was named after my late husband as he drove the buses) is shortly going to need replacing. The thought that a HarryBus would no longer be driving round Rye and the surrounding area, keeping PriscillaBus, John IzodBus, JimperBus, and LynBus company filled me with sadness.

Pat mentioned that £12,500 was needed to replace this bus. So I set myself the task of raising that sum of money before the original HarryBus went to bus heaven to meet his namesake.

I am so thrilled to announce that we now have that sum and shortly Pat and I will go and buy a new / second hand HarryBus.

How did we get to that eye-watering £12,500?

An article was put in this paper telling the story of HarryBus with a link to “Just Giving”. This is a platform that, on our behalf, organized that the government adds 25% to any donations that we received. Those donations flooded in – Rye responded with such generosity I was amazed.

My family also raided their piggy banks!

Then one day I realized we had reached our goal. To my great happiness a new / second hand HarryBus will soon be proudly driving round Rye and surrounding areas. Whilst the old HarryBus will take a well-earned retirement.
