Work to tidy up the Landgate will commence next Monday, March 14, say Rother District Council.

The work will start with a clean-out of pigeon waste. The removal of vegetation, repointing and other minor repairs will commence on Monday, March 21.  The council says they expect the work to be completed by Thursday, March 31.

The Landgate will remain open throughout the works.

  1. Thank goodness for that. Landgate is immensely important to Rye. It is the ‘Portal’ to the town.
If for economic reasons a more thorough renovation can not be done at this stage perhaps this level of work could be done on a regular basis?
Whoever looks after the ‘gates’ at Winchelsea seem to do a very good job?

  2. What happened to the collection for the renovation of the clock on the tower? We gave a donation of £100 towards the repair but have heard nothing for years.
