Last Friday evening September 2, Rye Film Club presented its last regular monthly film, The Honourable Rebel, featuring the life of Elizabeth Montagu, one-time heir to the Beaulieu estate. Local hero Martin Wimbush played a charming role as the last husband in her colourful life, including cloak and dagger stuff in Switzerland during the Second World War. He introduced the film with some personal reminiscences and won well-deserved applause from the large audience.

John Holbrook, club chairman, said afterwards that his committee is proposing to run a series of foreign films for a six month trial period, with welcome sponsorship from the George Hotel. “We need to revitalise and attract a new audience”, he said. “Foreign films are not easy to source, though and anyone willing to help on the committee or with an  interest in watching foreign films, please do get in touch with us”. Telephone 01797 229364 with your ideas.
