All the plans are now in place for Rye’s annual flower and veg show on Saturday September 5 at the Community Centre, Conduit Hill.
There are 54 classes from cabbages to marmalade! The show, organised by Rye Allotments association, is an opportunity for the whole community to show off their garden and home produce. There are also photography, handicraft, and cookery categories and categories for children too. Posters advertising the event are popping up around the town. The design is by Lily from Rye Community Primary School, part of the overall aim to include as many as possible in the event.
Many local businesses have helped out with sponsorship, enabling a schedule to be produced and prizes awarded to the category winners. The emphasis is very much on taking part and celebrating all things home grown and home made.
Entries can be accepted up until 11.30am on the morning of the show so why not give it a go? The show schedules are available free of charge from Adams in the High Street or Bargain Box in Cinque Ports Street or if they’ve run out, just email ryeallotments@yahoo.co.uk and we can forward you the information.
The show itself will open to the public at 2pm by which time the judging will be complete. Entry to the show is free and our Mayor, Bernadine Fiddimore has kindly agreed to present the prizes and certificates to the winners. Refreshments will also be on hand, thanks to the Landgate W.I.
