The former Methodist Church in Rye is up for rent. GPS Commercial have advertised the building to be let out on a new commercial lease for £40,000 a year. It has been empty and unused for many years.

The building in Church Square was built in 1903 and originally used as a Sunday school. The congregation moved there in 1954 after their chapel was bombed in the Second World War. The congregation then moved to the St Mary’s Centre on Lion Street five years ago after an inspection found that substantial costs would be needed to refurbish the building.

Rye News reported in October last year that the building had been sold after a lengthy sale. A number of uses have been suggested for the building. Little work inside or outside appears to have taken place since.

GPS Commercial describe the former church as being 4,100 sq ft in size. “The ground floor is arranged to provide an entrance hall, a main church hall and associated ancillary facilities. The lower ground floor comprises an additional hall with a self-contained entrance from the side of the building, together with WCs, a kitchen and associated rooms. To the rear of the property is an enclosed courtyard, with additional external areas located to each side of the building.”
