Strand Quay open at last

It was great to see just before Christmas that Strand Quay had finally reopened. The new petanque pitch looks very smart and, with the area having been turfed with seating, it should be a pleasant spot to visit once the weather gets warmer. I look forward to playing some games of petanque in the spring.

It’s clearly taken a lot longer to install the floating pontoons than initially expected, but hopefully all this work will benefit the town and enable more boats to visit Rye. It’s not often recently that there has been reason to praise public works, but on this occasion it seems good news for Rye and its maritime activities.

One criticism I have is reserved for dog owners who allow their pets to use the new grass as a toilet, which could spoil it for everyone else. Maybe dog bins need to be provided.

  1. There are dog bins at both points of entry/exit and have been for years, nothing has changed or been added other than the hand rails which can only be a good thing.

  2. See my comments on topic “Back on the Piste”
The new Piste has been constructed with far too low boundary timbers in conjunction with a smoother faster topping.
Just waiting for the players boules to dissappear into the harbour mud!
Shame, but I can’t afford to lose boules there.
