Recently at Poole on the crew emergency procedure course, Ron Thrall from Littlestone RNLI met up with some of our boat crew and knowing how keen our lifeboat operations manager Paul Bolton is on joint training it was suggested that they get together upon their return. Both stations have an Atlantic 85 and our helms enjoy these joint sessions on the water where skills and ideas are shared.

On a cold and bitter day with high winds, they launched for the first time at 8am. Some of the tasks they covered were slow boat manoeuvring, rough water handling and mooring. Stuart Clark, helm, said, “It was a very useful morning’s training, and it builds strong relationships with our flank station. Ron put the boat on the carriage on the first attempt which is great as there has not been much practising of that skill for him. We look forward to further sessions throughout the year.”

Ron has five more modules to pass and then he will pass out as competent crew for RNLI Littlestone and strengthen their team.
