Lions’ free tests save lives

Last Saturday, October 10, just shy of 150 men came to the Rye & District Lions free PSA testing day for a prostate health check at the Tilling Green Community Centre. Many were reassured, and some received counselling and advice to see their GP sooner rather than later.

Many of those who attended expressed thanks for the opportunity to check this vital element of their health, recognising that prostate cancer is so prevalent in the male population. The men who attended now also know just how important it is to have this test repeated regularly.

The Lions wish to publicly thank the nurses who volunteered to work on a rest day in order to give their time to carry out the tests and also a huge thanks go to the lovely Tilling Green volunteers who kept everyone fuelled with tea and coffee during a long day.

To enable the Lions Club to maintain its membership providing this valuable service in the future to the community and assist in its ongoing work of fundraising for local charities, those people who feel that they want to put something back into the community will be welcome to contact Lion Terry Cobby on 01797 252382 to find out more about how they can join.
