Students highlight climate crisis

On Friday, November 29, pupils and college students from Hastings took a day off study, encouraging adults to join them in a meeting in the centre of town. They feel that governments are not listening and certainly not taking it seriously in their manifesto. One young women said that making 2050 a target for zero emission is too late and even if it is a target no measures seem to be put in place now to actually achieve it.

Red rebels

It was a good turn out with a wonderful mixed group of adults (women and men) very young children with their parents and local school pupils. A couple of supporters from Rye befriended a young girl who was on her own. When asked if she was given permission from Hastings College or would be punished for taking the day off, she said: “I did not ask, I just came, I decided this was too important an issue and I wanted to be part of  this initiative by the youth to wake people up to the crises.”

Awareness raising

The train of people moved through the town with various flags carrying their messages and went towards the Pier accompanied by the Hastings Extinction Rebellion drummers and much support from car drivers.

This was a peaceful but powerful disruption organized by the young without inconveniencing anyone.
