Last Saturday, Rye 1sts experienced their worst performance of the season against Linfield 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Linfield posted 269-4 off 45 overs. Initially Rye reduced them to 39-2, as Chauka Dilshan took 3-33 off 9 overs. However, a 190 run partnership between Harry Morrat, 106 no and Inesh Udayanga, 102 saw Rye unable to apply the necessary pressure to take wickets.

In reply, Rye’s innings was equally toothless as they were dismissed for just 95. Five players made double figures, but none could go on and add to their score. Ross Pedley, 5-24 did the bulk of the damage. This Saturday, Rye have the opportunity to make good as they travel to bottom club Bexhill 1sts.

Rye 2nds on Saturday won a thrilling low scoring affair off the penultimate ball of the match against Hellingly 1sts. Hellingly batted first, and raced to 61-1 off 8 overs as Chris Loveland hit 38 off 33 balls. The introduction of spin on a pitch that started to deteriorate saw Hellingly subside to 130-9 off 40 overs as Paul Hitchcott took 3-20 and the spinners Martin Blincow, Ross Pierce and Jack Barras took 2 wickets apiece.

Rye’s response was slow as the pitch got lower and lower in bounce. Mark Cook, 44 of 94 balls, held the innings together with Tom O’Neill, 15 off 43 balls. It was left to Ewan Fricker and skipper Ellis Hatter to seal victory, as Hatter hit balls 3 and 4 of the last over to the boundary, followed by a bye to the keeper off the 5th.

This Saturday Rye 2nds host Little Common Ramblers 2nds in a match sponsored by the Mermaid Inn.

The thirds made it two wins in a week over Westfield 2nds. After the run-fest of 650 runs the previous week, this match was calmer. Rye posted 189-8 off 40 overs, as skipper James Jury was 99 not out and Anthony Bradnum 26. Westfield fell 37 runs short, as Anthony Bradnum took 3-26, and David Upjohn and James Archer took 2 wickets apiece.

This Saturday the 3rds travel to play Herstmonceux 3rds at Ninfield.
