Sporting fun for kids

Rugbytots is a weekly play session for boys and girls aged from two to seven which helps children develop social and physical skills in a fun, positive environment.

The play sessions in Rye are run by Theo Bekker who readers may know as a coach at Rye Rugby Club or from his time working at the Ship Inn, the Globe Inn Marsh, and currently the Standard Inn.

Theo’s enthusiasm for the sport shines through in the way he nurtures the tots in his charge and, as the father of a young child, he has seen first-hand the benefits to be gained from the Rugbytots classes.

The main aims of Rugbytots are to:

  • have fun;
  • build confidence and learn about teamwork;
  • learn new skills like catching, throwing and kicking;
  • make new friends.

The fun-packed sessions take place at Rye Rugby Club on Saturday mornings, and at Buckswood school on Sunday mornings. Toddlers aged two to three and a half start at 9am for 30 minutes of enjoyable play and exercise, and from 10:15am there is a 45 minute session for infants aged three and a half to five. Theo is busy setting up classes for juniors aged from five to seven, and finding a location for Rugbytots in Tenterden.

All coaches are given detailed in-house training and have completed an internal Rugbytots coaching course, and all sessions are fully insured. The cost is £7.50 a session but all children are first given a free taster session. To book a free trial email theo@rugbytots.co.uk or phone 03453 139667.
