Let the music play!

The Rye-based Music Well community interest company is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will be holding its AGM on Tuesday, November 24 at 6pm. As with many meetings during these strange and troubled times it will be via Zoom.

I’m sure, like me, many readers had never heard of Zoom nine months ago! It has now become a regular and much needed part of life.

The Music Well has taken most of its work online. We are continuing our popular weekly adult group singing sessions (where all are welcome as we believe that absolutely everybody can sing!) along with our weekly children’s singing group.

We are not only offering regular meditation and sound bowl sessions but also music appreciation sessions, all online.

The old adage every cloud has a silver lining is absolutely true as we have been able to extend our boundaries in a surprisingly large way – one of our participants in the meditation sessions lives in New Zealand!

After the first lockdown, we were able to engage in some socially distanced outside singing, but have moved back to Zoom during the current lockdown.

Thankfully, we have also been able to return to some schools and residential homes to continue our valuable music therapy work face to face. In some settings this has not been possible, but in many cases we have been able to revert to Zoom sessions.

Our AGM is open to everyone and we would be delighted to welcome interested members of the community next Tuesday.

The Music Well offers all its online activities free to participants. We are eternally grateful to the funds we have received from Rye Town Council, Rye Community Shop, Rye Fund, the Sussex Crisis Fund and the Red Hill Trust as without these funds we could not continue and provide what many people have described as a lifeline.
