Gird your loins for a busy couple of weeks with the Music Well!

The Music Well will be performing its first ever intergenerational concert on Sunday, July 2 at 2:30pm at the creative centre in Rye. The two singing groups – the adult group led by Alison Harrison and the children’s group led by Marian Ham – will be joining forces to delight!

Alison and Marian have been working hard to find a way to bring the two groups together, considering they meet and rehearse separately. This is no mean feat and they have done a brilliant job. With the help of composer, musical arranger and conductor Nick Ingman they have cleverly divided and merged songs for the different groups to sing together. There will be angelic vocals from solo child singers and raucous sea shanties from the adult group. Something not to be missed.

The concert is free, but donations to the Music Well are always gratefully received.

It will be the first opportunity to sing the Music Well anthem ‘Singing’ to an audience. The two groups had an exciting day out in Hastings at a recording studio overlaying their vocals on a track recorded by brass players of the Cranbrook Town Band the day before. This anthem will be available to buy on CD at the concert or it is possible to download the track via YouTube.

The second date for your diary is Saturday, July 15 from 12 noon to 4pm. It will be an opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the secret garden at Little Orchard House in West Street. This annual event is always well attended and enjoyed by all who come. There will be drinks and food to buy and music to enjoy. The singing groups will be reliving their success of July 2 and will be sandwiched between the Rye Ukulele Group and drumming circles for all ages and abilities. There will be lots of opportunities to join in.

The Music Well is all about inclusion and participation. So don’t hold back. Come and join us on July 2 and 15 . Or even better don’t wait until then – come down to the Rye Scout Centre (by the swimming pool) on a Tuesday lunchtime at 1pm and learn the songs and perform with us. Alison will be delighted to welcome you and teach you the songs we will be singing. Or contact Marian, dmham128@btinternet.com, and get your child signed up to join the children’s singing club (it is free) at the creative centre every Monday from 4pm – 5pm.
